Joyful Discovery in Our Outdoor School
And so, with a joyful heart, we celebrate another week in our newly reimagined outdoor school! The last four weeks have truly been a season of Joyful Discovery, not only for the children, but for the Crossway team as well. Each day, there is always plenty to do, each choice has a purpose, there are friends and teammates to share it with, and everyone is surrounded by beauty. It seems like a magic formula for the spirit of peace and calm that seems to be reigning on the campus.
The month of August promises to be equally busy. This week, we began planting the meadow with wild flowers to attract the pollinators that we depend on so much for our gardens and to provide flowers to adorn our tables—and yours! The plan for the new pavilions is underway, and they will be installed before the school year begins in September.

FLOWERS
Flowers are the subject of countless poems and stories the world over. Flowers have been admired since the dawn of man. They enchant with their beauty, sweet fragrance, and vibrant colors. They help make nature a prismatic bliss to the senses. No lesson on botany would be complete without them. A Montessori botany lesson is an opportunity to introduce the environment, stimulate the senses and to generate excitement about the wonders of Mother Nature for our children. The reproductive necessities of flowers have made their evolution a wonder of nature. The most striking examples have radiant colors and delicious aroma that attract animals, or pollinators and ensure their survival.
Our curriculum gives us a chance to illustrate the importance of sustainability and educate our children about how we can protect the planet’s fragile ecosystems.
