Music as a Way of Learning
Creativity, Play, and Learning with Jeremy Levine
At our Montessori school, music is not about performance or perfection. It is about expression, connection, and joy. We are excited to welcome Jeremy Levine as our Artistic Director for Music, bringing a creative and child centered approach to music education that aligns deeply with Montessori principles and the rhythms of daily school life.
Music as a Way of Learning
In Montessori environments, children learn through movement, sensory exploration, repetition, and meaningful work. Music naturally supports this way of learning. Rather than focusing on memorization or formal performance, music invites children to explore sound, rhythm, movement, and listening through play and collaboration. Children are encouraged to improvise, experiment with instruments, sing together, and express themselves creatively. These experiences support concentration, coordination, confidence, emotional expression, and a sense of belonging within the classroom community.
What Children Will Experience
Working closely with guides, Jeremy will design developmentally appropriate music experiences for children in the Nido, Young Children’s Community, and Children’s House. Music will be woven into the daily rhythm of the classroom and the seasonal life of the school. Children will experience music as something they participate in together, not something they perform for others. Through these shared experiences, children build listening skills, social awareness, creativity, and joy.
A Philosophy Rooted in Creativity
Jeremy’s work is grounded in the belief that every child has music inside them. His approach honors each child’s natural curiosity and developmental stage, creating space for exploration rather than instruction alone. By meeting children where they are, music becomes a tool for self expression and connection rather than an outcome to be achieved. Jeremy is also a parent in our community, and his family shares in the daily rhythms of life at our school. This lived connection informs his work and strengthens the sense of shared care and belonging across our campus.
Music as Part of a Larger Community
We believe creativity connects us across ages and experiences. Music offers a shared language that supports learning, collaboration, and joy. As our music program grows, it will continue to reflect our commitment to educating the whole child and nurturing a community where creativity is lived, not scheduled. We look forward to the warmth, curiosity, and connection this music program will bring to our children and to the life of our school.
