A Season of Gratitude in the Garden

Last week, our community was deeply touched by the generosity and care of Gretchen and Bob Wilder, grandparents of a child in the Children’s House. Visiting from near Juneau, Alaska, the Wilders spent time lovingly tending our New World Garden—trimming, clearing, and preparing the space for the season ahead.

Home gardeners themselves, Gretchen and Bob bring a deep appreciation for the natural world wherever they go. During their visit, they joined our Children’s Market and Oktoberfest celebrations, spending time outdoors and connecting with families.

When their family first toured our campus with Hope and Byron, they were immediately drawn to the outdoor classrooms and gardens—spaces that reflect the same reverence for nature they nurture at home.

We’re deeply grateful for their helping hands, open hearts, and the spirit of stewardship they bring to our community. And we’re delighted to share that the Wilders have recently purchased a nearby condo, ensuring we’ll continue to see them for many more visits and seasons of growth together.

Stories like Gretchen and Bob’s remind us how much a single act of care can nurture our shared spaces.

If you feel inspired to get involved, we’d love to welcome you into our community of volunteers.
