Montessori From Nido to Ninety

A National Webinar on Aging, Dignity, and Intergenerational Community

For more than 35 years, Montessori Living has been building a working model of intergenerational community, a place where children, families, elders, and caregivers learn, live, and grow together. Now, for the first time, we’re opening this conversation to Montessori schools and families nationwide through a new webinar series exploring Montessori across the lifespan.

On Thursday, February 5, 2026 from 4:00–5:00 p.m., we’ll host a special session with aging expert Steve Gurney to discuss how Montessori principles support humans from infancy to age 100, and why intergenerational connection is essential for thriving communities.

Why Montessori + Aging Is Gaining National Attention

As families navigate caregiving, longer lifespans, solo aging, and the stresses of the sandwich generation, Montessori offers something rare:
a philosophy that honors dignity, independence, and meaningful work at every stage of life.

Montessori across the lifespan helps:

  • infants grow into confident, capable explorers

  • children develop empathy and social responsibility

  • adults find purposeful ways to contribute

  • elders maintain agency, belonging, and joy

This webinar introduces schools and families to the language, practices, and mindset that make aging a community opportunity, not a burden.

The Power of Grandparents in Montessori Communities

One of Steve Gurney’s most compelling insights is how underutilized grandparents are in school culture. Around the country, Grandparents Clubs are emerging as a quiet engine for stability, connection, and community life.

Grandparents bring:

  • stories and cultural knowledge

  • reading and mentorship

  • gardening and practical life activities

  • continuity across generations

  • deep enthusiasm for supporting children and teachers

For many elders aging solo or far from family, Montessori communities become a place to belong again.

What You’ll Learn in the Webinar

This national conversation will explore:

  • Montessori principles across the lifespan

  • The rise of Grandparents Clubs and how schools can start one

  • Simple, high-impact ideas for intergenerational involvement

  • How to support modern families as they navigate caregiving and aging

The tone is warm, hopeful, and practical, ideas you can use immediately.
