Steven J. Hughes, PhD, ABPdN, pediatric neuropsychologist and Montessori parent will be speaking at Crossway Community on Wednesday, December 7, from 7Pm until 9PM.
Hughes is a strong advocate of activity-based developmental approaches to education, and is a frequent speaker and consultant to Montessori education organizations around the world. Hughes believes that Montessori curriculum triggers specific brain functions that improve a child’s cognitive development. In fact, Hughes considers Montessori “the original brain-based method of learning.”
Hughes serves as chair of the Association Montessori Internationale Global Research Committee and president of American Academy Pediatric Neuropsychology. He completed his PhD in clinical psychology at the University of Minnesota and his post-doctoral fellowship in pediatric neuropyschology at the University of Minnesota Medical School, where he served as a faculty member in the Division of Pediatric Clinical Neurosciences from 2001 to 2011.
Through his research and experience, Hughes will explain why Montessori works. Using his background in neuroscience, Hughes explains how Montessori environments aid in the development of complex neural pathways and literally build the architecture of the brain.
Light refreshments and tours of Crossway’s Montessori environments will take place at 6PM. Please register for this event on our website: www.crossway-community.org, by mail or in person. Tickets are $20 per person.
The event will be held at: Crossway Commuity:
